The image view is used for:

Using the Image View

To open the image view

Either use the "Open..." command, or you can just double-click on any image in a page.

To make a background transparent (GIF files only)

Select the transparency wand tool, and click on the image on the color you want to be made "transparent". (Remember to "zoom in" if you're having difficulty selecting a small region.) All pixels of that selected color will become transparent, and you'll see the image "blend" into the page. The wand works like a toggle - if you change your mind, simply click again on the transparent region. Note: the transparent effect will not appear in your pages until the image is re-saved.

To make the image "interlaced" (GIF files only)

If you want the image to be downloaded "venetian-blind style", simply click on the "interlace toggle" switch. (The icon will appear "striped" to indicate interlacing.) Note that PageMill does not indicate this effect in the page view. Furthermore, you have to "save" the image for this to take effect.
Fun tip!! If you have an image view open, and you want to use that image in a page, you can simply drag the image document proxy directly into the page!

Creating hot spots

Simply select a hot spot tool and draw on your image! The hot spot shapes work just like any simple graphics program - you can select them, move them, and reshape them with the arrow tool (the pointer).

These hot spot shapes can overlap, which means that the layering will be important.
Use the "hot spot layer" icon (a popup menu will appear) to move shapes back and forth. (A number is displayed with each shape to tell you its relative order.)

Making hot spots visible

Depending on the color and pattern of your picture, it might be the case that it's difficult to see the hot spot shapes drawn on top of the picture. If so, simply change the color of the shapes using the hot spot color icon.

Also, the labels for any links specified for the hot spots is drawn on the picture. If it becomes too cluttered, you can turn off all label display in the image view using the small text checkbox. (See the details of making clickable image maps for info on links.)
